Sacred Geometry: The Spiral, The Loop, & The Vesica Piscis

By: Noëlle Kathryn

Sacred geometry and the meanings behind the shapes run through our daily lives more than you may notice. In this piece, I want to explore themes from the loop and spiral, and how the vesica piscis brings them together in perfect harmony. We are all full of opposites and contradictory beliefs. Somehow we make it work. Somehow our opposing sides come together to create each of us in our own unique, magical, and beautiful way. To dig in deeper, let's start with one of the most common and recognizable- the spiral.

Think of the spiral as your light side. Imagine the side of you that yearns for growth and progress. The spiral is the unfolding of your inner-self and the intuition you hold. This side of you transcends concerns of your ego and serves your higher-self. You can easily find a spiral with some inner stillness and silence. Spirals tap us into our profound wisdom and knowledge. With our best interests in mind, spirals lead us to make the most authentic choices for ourselves. You may also think of spirals as your “healed side”- the side moving towards an awakening.

Just like everyone has a light side and spiral themes throughout their lives, they also all have a darker side with themes represented by the loop. Loops deal with catering to the ego and self-comfortability. They signal constricted thinking and behaviors. The thoughts and actions that keep you in place, stuck, and looping. These are repetitive ego cycles. They stem from fears, which gives you the need for control. Your thoughts and actions will loop to safeguard your identity to others and keep yourself comfortable. Loops allow external influences, like what others may think of you, to fuel your ego. They also give you the perfect recipe to form harmful patterns and behaviors, as well as making your beliefs rigid and inflexible. Loops require your patience. They require carefully planned and thought out guidance- even if the guidance is from your higher self- to steer you away from harmful thoughts, behaviors, and actions. Loops are not incurable, they just take time.

The beautiful thing about humanity is our ability to exude duality. Some parts of us are in loops, while simultaneously other parts are in spirals. We can be both scared and brave. We can be tired of the chapter we're currently in, but also looking forward to the rest of the journey. This is where the vesica piscis comes into play. This represents the joining of opposites. The vesica piscis merges masculine energy with the feminine. It combines the physical world with the spiritual realm- Heaven and Earth, so to speak. This brings unity and wholeness to two very different parts, allowing them to come together to make something even more beautiful than they could on their own. It shows us duality and balance. This shape brings all of the opposing ideas, thoughts, behaviors, and actions together to create perfect harmony.

Merging the two parts is not easy. It's not supposed to be easy. Growth does not come from comfortability. However, the peace you feel once you begin to learn to perfect your own unique duality is well worth the work of getting there.

How can each of these sacred shapes fit into your life?

How can you incorporate the vesica piscis into your daily routine, giving more of a focus to divine duality?
